PIONEERING PROTECTION FOR OVER 50 YEARS

The history of Westex

Westex, established in 1919, has over 50 years of experience in the manufacturing of flame resistant fabrics. Our unmatched experience dates back to World War II when we developed innovative FR technology commissioned by the U.S. Military. In 1987, Westex began a major research and development program that resulted in Westex Indura® brand fabrics. The advanced Westex technology combined custom engineered equipment with additional proprietary processing steps at nearly every stage of the engineering process. The superior Westex technology led to the market proven flame resistance guarantee for the life of the garment.

Today, the primary business of Westex is the production of the industry’s premier brands — Westex UltraSoft®, UltraSoft AC® and Indura® fabrics. But we continue to raise the bar on the overall improvement of protective fabrics, led by the most experienced technical staff in the industry. Our involvement in industry committees, through NFPA and ASTM, has spanned decades in the pursuit of developing standards to protect workers from potential hazards in the workplace. We’ve conducted thousands of tests at independent laboratories evaluating the performance of FR fabrics.

Westex recognizes that in the event of an electric arc flash, flash fire, molten metal splash or other thermal exposure, the performance of the FR fabric is a critical factor in determining the level of protection the garment will afford the wearer. The FR fabric is also a primary factor in determining the comfort, durability and overall value of a protective clothing program. Over the past half century, Westex has earned a reputation for building the most advanced systems, equipment and technology designed for one purpose – to deliver unparalleled performance in FR fabrics. That commitment includes providing excellent service and technical support and a singular focus on innovative research and development.

But the reason why thousands of end users continue to specify Westex fabrics goes beyond our unmatched commitment to safety. A strong commitment to inventory, coupled with over 750,000 square feet of manufacturing and warehousing, allows Westex to provide unrivaled worldwide support to the protective clothing marketplace. Millions of garments made from Westex fabrics are being worn today by workers in many industries including electrical maintenance, electric and gas utilities, oil, gas, petrochemical, chemical, military, and ferrous metals industries. We’ve earned their trust, and we will keep it by consistently raising the bar on protection, comfort and value.
