Today, millions of workers across the globe need protection from arc flash, flash fire and other thermal hazards. At Westex: A Milliken Brand, we are committed to consistently delivering the highest level of protection, comfort, and value in the flame-resistant (FR) fabrics used to protect those workers. And we deliver on that commitment through purposeful innovation, advanced engineering and an unwavering commitment to education across all levels of the industry.
A Legacy of Pioneering Protection
Our unmatched expertise in the manufacturing of FR fabrics was first established during World War II, when the United States Military commissioned innovative FR technology from Westex. Since then, we have developed custom engineering equipment and proprietary processing steps that have enabled us to launch the first guaranteed flame resistant fabric. With decades of market-proven performance, the Westex fabrics are specified today by thousands of end-user companies globally because they provide the best comfort, protection, and value.
A Proud History of Innovation
At Milliken, we have been exploring, discovering and creating ways to enhance and protect people’s lives since 1865. We have long been a leader in innovation that combines deep science, meaningful design and unique insights to bring a new approach to customer challenges. Our history of innovation combined with the broad market knowledge and strong end-user relationships of Westex enable us to deliver more advanced FR products to the industry.
Safety Through Education
In addition to developing innovative technology and products, we also help end-users develop successful FR programs by providing comprehensive education, unrenowned technical support and delivering consistent quality and market-proven performance. We advance the industry by creating new standards and expectations for protection and performance. We have made significant investments in one-of-a-kind live arc flash and flash fire testing and distributed more than 250,000 free educational videos and materials worldwide.
Safety isn’t just something we sell but something we are passionate about. We have one of the lowest total injury and incident rates of manufacturers in North America. Milliken has become one of the nation’s top three companies for the number of sites receiving the coveted OSHA Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) STAR certification and has twice been named “One of the World’s Safest Companies” by EHS Today.
Responsible Sustainable Manufacturing
We take full responsibility for sustainable manufacturing — from beginning to end. We address the waste that results from producing our products and commit to doing business with the highest ethical standards. We take environmental responsibility seriously. The first Milliken documented recycling policy was in the early 1900s, years before the Environmental Protection Agency was formed. To date, the company diverts 99 percent of its waste from landfills to places where it can be re-used or recycled. As a carbon negative-certified company, we capture and offset more carbon dioxide than we emit. As a ten-year consecutive winner of the Ethisphere Magazine’s list of the “World Most Ethical Companies” we take pride in doing good in the world by giving back to our community, sourcing responsible suppliers and inventing products that do good.
As a company, we gained insight to set our sustainability priorities, listened to what is material to stakeholders, created measurable goals and put the right team in place. Explore our Sustainability Reporting Hub to learn more and view the 2019 report.
